Intensive Training – Evenings

Ealing, West London

The evening intensive training programme takes place in West London and would suit those who work at weekends or prefer to train in the week. The training consists of practical classes in rhythmics, aural training (solfa/solfège) and improvisation, the principles and practice of Dalcroze Eurhythmics and related studies.

This year we are offering places on both the Foundation and Intermediate levels. (Foundation students starting in 2023, who wish to continue to year 3, may have to take their certificate training on the weekend course).

Classes are taught by Kaye Barker – Diplôme Supérieur and guest teachers during the year.

Year One, the Foundation Year, consists of one evening per week during term time, our Spring Course, 15 x 2 hour online sessions and an exam weekend (held in Croydon). On the exam weekend candidates take practical exams in rhythmics, aural training and improvisation and and submit written work. On successful completion of the exams they receive a Foundation Award and can then progress to Year Two, the Intermediate Year if they wish.

Studies for the Intermediate Award build on Foundation training. By this time students are usually applying what they are learning to their own work. Following successful completion of the Intermediate Award candidates are entitled to advertise that they apply Dalcroze principles and practices in the context of their own profession (as a piano teacher, class teacher, therapist etc.)

Completion of the Professional Certificate requires a third year of training and the final exams include teaching exams in addition to personal practical exams and a substantial written submission.

Holders of the Professional Certificate are entitled to advertise that they hold a professional qualification in teaching Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

Foundation Term Commences: 18 September 2023 – Deadline for Registration is 27 August 2023

The Foundation course has been a complete game changer in terms of my practice as a classroom music teacher, but more importantly in developing my own musicianship.  It has provided me with a complete approach to developing the whole musician in an engaging and effortless way based on doing and experiencing music in its fullest.  The emphasis on self-exploration and creativity that Dalcroze brings, has helped me rediscover my love of music!
