Professional Training
Ealing, London – Evenings Weekly
The evening professional training programme is held in Ealing, London, and is suitable for those who work weekends or prefer to train during the week. The training includes practical classes in rhythmics, aural training (solfa/solfège), and improvisation, as well as the principles and practice of Dalcroze Eurhythmics and related studies. The programmes at the Ealing training centre include one evening per week during term time, 15 two-hour online sessions, and an exam weekend in London (optional)
For 2026/27, the Ealing training centre is offering enrolment on the Foundation, Intermediate, and Professional Certificate levels.
Classes are led by Kaye Barker, a Diplôme Supérieur, and supported by teachers throughout the year.
Foundation Award
The Foundation Award. If an accredited award is required, candidates undertake practical exams in rhythmics, aural training, and improvisation, and submit written work. Upon successfully passing the exams, they receive an accredited Foundation Award and can then progress to Year Two, the Intermediate Year, if they wish.
Intermediate Award
Studies for the Intermediate Award build upon Foundation training. By this stage, students typically start applying their learning to their own work. After successfully completing the Intermediate Award, candidates are entitled to advertise that they apply Dalcroze principles and practices within their own profession (such as a piano teacher, class teacher, or therapist).
Professional Certificate
Completing the Professional Certificate requires a third year of training, and the final exams include teaching assessments, personal practical exams, and a comprehensive written submission. Professional Certificate holders may advertise that they hold a professional qualification in teaching Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

The training venue in Warwick offers a programme of weekend training and classes, delivered in modules over two terms rather than three. This new programme will run seven weekends from January to June 2027. The course suits both professionals and students with a background in music education and performance, and other artists, such as dancers or actors, with a sound understanding of music who can more easily travel to the Midlands. Warwick has great transport links from London, Manchester and Birmingham.
The programme at the Warwick training centre will comprise face-to-face practical classes in rhythmics, aural training (solfa/solfège), and improvisation within Dalcroze-related studies over the training weekends, as well as online sessions and an exam weekend. “The Dalcroze Teachers Foundation Course was an amazing experience. Kaye Barker is a wonderful teacher – brilliant, patient, and supportive. She created a space full of exploration and creativity in which we all thrived. I also felt very fortunate to study alongside such an inspiring and creative group of fellow trainees. As a musician, the course helped me connect with music in a more holistic and embodied way, and it pushed me beyond my comfort zone, bringing new depth to the way I perceive and perform music.
As a piano teacher, it transformed my approach and gave me practical tools that have made my lessons more engaging, imaginative, and effective. Truly one of the best decisions I’ve made for my professional development, and I am looking forward to the Intermediate year!”
“I found Dalcroze a couple of years ago after a 30-year teaching career. It was inspiring and has really made me rethink and reinvent my teaching. Doing the intensive course on Monday evenings with Kaye has been such fun. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and I have met some amazing new friends and learned a lot as well. The environment that you learn in is so kind and accepting, but also challenging, and has made me a much more confident person both as a musician and a teacher.”
