The Dalcroze Walk – A selection of  Licence students’ experiences and creative work presented in movement, music and visual media

The Dalcroze Walk was started by Ruth Stewart. In it the class walks outside in the streets or in nature. They are not permitted to talk and must open their senses to all impressions and experiences. They may be invited to look out for or make note of certain things such as the Dalcroze Subjects. Following the walk the students discuss their experiences and may produce creative work related to it.

In this version, 10 students prepared their walk by attending to shapes in the studio, drew them; made sounds that illustrated their drawings and played them before walking in the grounds of Royal Russell School, Croydon on a sunny day. They then drew, and moved for their drawings as well as playing them. This was followed with homework in which students developed their creative work further, wrote poetry, made films etc.

We thought tEaster Course participants would enjoy seeing some of this work and have chosen 4 presentations: Elena Lunghi; Dario Herraiz -Sabater; Kathryn Kay and Eleonora Giovanardi.
