One of the most universally renowned artists in pop musical history, Annie Lennox, has agreed to lend her name to the charity Dalcroze UK. It was at Aberdeen High School for Girls, Primary Department that Annie was first taught Eurhythmics by her dance teacher, and so encountered the pioneering method of experiencing music through movement [...]
We have lots to celebrate in the first half of the year! Congratulations to member Andrew Davidson who has completed his Diplôme Supérieur in Geneva! Congratulations, also, to Diane Daly who has been appointed Head of Strings at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin. The [...]
I love ‘grommiting’ around a bookshop. My house is full of books that have either been read or are in the long line (ever increasing) of things I really will read. There is a bookcase full of books from my past that included stories read to me in my childhood and a bookcase [...]
Trixy (3rd from left) with the foundation group Kaye Barker interviews Trixy Alberga who has just completed the foundation course. What prompted you to attend the foundation course 2022-23? During 2022, Jacqueline Vann (Dalcroze Teacher) attended an afternoon zoom workshop with the European Piano Teachers Association. Jacqueline Vann is an engaging personality [...]
In January 2023 I was invited as international guest teacher to Dalcroze Australia’s first in-person course for three years. I was delighted to be asked and the experience exceeded all my expectations. I would [...]
Melanie (crouching right!) with the weekend foundation group My first experience of Dalcroze Eurhythmics was with Karin Greenhead at the old Trinity College in London. I cannot remember much but have a vivid memory of running across the floor with my friend to ‘America’ by Bernstein. Years later, I saw Dalcroze inspired [...]
General News Life and work have been very busy since my last report (November 2022). The 10 students in our Dalcroze UK Licence programme have completed the year with some mock exams and mini mocks. The Italian members of this group and Dario (Spain) had their December course with Ava Loiacono in Italy [...]
How did you first come across Dalcroze Eurhythmics? In 1991, I was a first-year Bachelor of Music student at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia. Dr Sandra Nash taught weekly musicianship lessons. In true Dalcroze fashion, she asked the class to stack the furniture and take off our shoes [...]
As Development Manager, it is my role to talk to Members, seek out new partnerships and training opportunities and raise awareness of the value of a Dalcroze Eurhythmics training wherever I can. So I was really pleased to be able to spend two days in London with Sandi, Jacqueline and Kaye where we [...]
