Alison Wise – MA Music (Cambridge), MA Theory and Analysis of Music (Durham), PGCE (Cambridge), Dalcroze Professional Certificate

Alison grew up in West Yorkshire, and studied music at St John’s College, Cambridge and Durham University.  Whilst working as a cello and piano teacher, she experienced Dalcroze workshops where she was struck by the creativity and intuitiveness of this approach to music teaching.  This inspired her to study for the Dalcroze Professional Certificate through evening classes at the RNCM.  More recently, Alison has been studying for the Dalcroze Licence.

Alison has taught Dalcroze Eurhythmics at Yorkshire Young Musicians since 2010.  She has led a Dalcroze taster day in Leeds, and taught Dalcroze on the 2022 Bryanston Suzuki Summer School.  She previously taught musicianship, cello and early years music in various settings for Opera North.

Alison is the music teacher for the junior school at Ackworth School, Pontefract, where she integrates Dalcroze and Kodály into the music curriculum.  She also works with primary school teachers for the Voices Foundation, coaching them in teaching classroom music using Kodály methodology.
