Description

Emile Jaques-Dalcroze, a brilliant improviser, composter and conductor devised and developed his ideas concerning the relationship between movement and musicianship as a result of acute observation of his conservatory students.

He writes, “The story of my researches, my groping and failures, as of my definite achievements, can be found in the various chapters… In chronological order, these chapters record my ideas as developed from 1897 to the present day in lectures and articles”.

Many of his observations, thoughts and methods anticipate and still surpass the most recent developments in pedagogy and the arts today. Written in 1919, it remains one of the most important texts the 20th century music education.
