We are delighted that Yi-Ru Tsai will be joining us this year for the International Summer School in Cardiff.

Yi-Ru holds a Masters in Composition in Taiwan (NTNU) and a Masters of Music Pedagogy in the method of Jaques-Dalcroze Eurhythmics in Geneva (HEM). She is currently the final stage of the Diplôme Supérieur program at Insitut Jaques-Dalcroze (IJD). During her six years in Geneva (2013-2019), she has taught numerous classes at IJD including Eurhythmic classes for parent-enfant, children and seniors. While studying, Yi-Ru was awarded the Emile Jaques-Dalcroze Foundation prize for improvisation and the Altheia Foundation prize for the best artistic project.

She will be running a workshop exploring creativity inspired by the Chinese language.

Chinese is different from western languages in a number of ways. For example, each Chinese word is combined by different strokes with a specific order in a precise direction, which is comparable to a music score. The goal of this workshop is to use the different strokes and characters of the Chinese language as the starting point to inspire our imagination, in order to create an improvisation and movement performance.
