Background

In 2011, former chair of Dalcroze Society UK Jean Middlemiss approached Sally Beamish about writing a short piece for movement for Dalcroze UK’s centenary.  Knowing very little about Dalcroze, Sally decided to attend some classes led by Monica Wilkinson in Glasgow.  She became fascinated by this method of musicianship training and agreed to take on the commission.
The aims of the Ring Time project are:
  • to celebrate music/movement connections and raise the profile of Dalcroze
  • to illuminate the influence that Dalcroze had on the dramatic arts, as well as music education
  • to create an educational resource for creative projects in a wide range of settings, to be led by qualified Dalcrozians

Following the première, there will be three day-long workshops for musicians and dancers to explore music/movement connections.
